What are Innovations?
In essence, WIRED West Michigan served as the “launching pad” for initiatives that will continue to benefit the region long after the WIRED funding is concluded. WIRED West Michigan views the $15 million WIRED grant as the initial investment that from which the region will continue to reap the dividends for years to come.
WIRED West Michigan utilized its federal grant dollars to launch multiple region-wide initiatives, known as INNOVATIONS. WIRED West Michigan maintained the “oversight” for each of these initiatives, and mandated that each Innovation team demonstrate results to continue to receive further WIRED support. Those innovations most capable of creating measurable results received ongoing funding and counsel during the grant period, but needed to become self-sustaining once the grant ended.
