In 2006, The Right Place began collaborating with Lakeshore Advantage to develop a regional infrastructure to support increased innovation capacity and the successful implementation of these ideas and practices among West Michigan’s businesses. Jim Ross, vice president of innovation & technical services for The Right Place leads the InnovationWorks efforts.

WIRED Innovation: InnovationWorks
 
Innovation Champion: Jim Ross
 
InnovationWorks was created as a region-wide commitment to providing access to the “right” resources capable of accelerating the development of intellectual property in West Michigan.
 
The InnovationWorks Commercialization Infrastructure provides an integrated system of resources designed to help people and businesses mine for inventions and new technologies, connect companies to ideas, and coach individuals on making those ideas a reality.
 
Another regional effort that blossomed under InnovationWORKS is Design West Michigan. Design West Michigan seeks to better position the region as a hub for design and ingenuity.  It also help’s area companies better understand the role design can play in boosting the bottom line.
