WIRED Innovation: Knowledge Workers & Economic Development
Innovation Champions:
Dr. Charles Grantham and Dr. James Ware
Recognizing that by 2012, nearly 60 percent of West Michigan employees are expected to work in “knowledge jobs”, a portion of the WIRED grant was earmarked to explore the feasibility of “remote work centers” through the Knowledge Workers & Economic Development Innovation.
Remote work centers – “third places” – are business centers offering administrative services, office space, meeting rooms and other amenities to these types of workers a membership basis.
The vision of this Innovation was to engage high-commuter-population communities with a plan for developing remote work centers, helping attract and retain knowledge workers in more rural areas.
