WIRED Innovation: NCRC WorkKeys

Innovation Champions: Rachel Jungblut and Bill Guest

In early 2006, WIRED West Michigan recognized the need to boost the skills of the region’s workforce, and better showcase those skills to potential employers. As part of that effort, WIRED West Michigan established a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) Innovation team to increase adoption of the NCRC as a valid and value-driven skills certification tool for a new era. The team has been focused on building employer recognition of, and demand for, NCRC/WorkKeys testing in West Michigan.

Offered through ACT, WorkKeys are a series of standardized tests that reliably predict future job performance by measuring workplace skill readiness. Test results indicate either a bronze, silver or gold level of skill. Workers can use the corresponding NCRC certificate to showcase their level of skill to a potential employer.
